The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) enhanced rider scheme checks your motorcycle riding skills and provides training to help you improve. This is an assessment by a registered DVSA Tutor, there is no exam.
You can get discounts on motorcycle insurance once you’ve successfully completed the scheme, the real benefit is having the right skills to keep you safe and to enjoy the many miles on your motorcycle.
You can take the enhanced rider scheme if you’re a fully licensed motorcyclist (DVLA Group A and A2 Licence) having passed your test.
The scheme is suitable if you:
- have just passed your test
- are returning to riding after a break
- are upgrading to a more powerful motorcycle
- want to check your riding standard
How the scheme works
You’ll first have a rider assessment with one of our expert trainers. You’ll ride in different road and traffic conditions.
The ride will be long enough for your trainer to make a good assessment of your skills. For most people this is 1 to 2 hours.
If this shows you don’t need more training you’ will be issued via email a ‘DVSA certificate of competence’ straight away.
Otherwise, you’ll get personalised training programme to improve your skills and get the certificate at the end of your training.
The DVSA certificate of competence gives you discounts with most motorcycle insurers. (See participating Insurers below).
The insurers sponsoring the scheme are: AA Insurance, Bennett Insurance, Bikesure, Carole Nash, Chandler Direct, CIA insurance, Devitt, E Bike, MCE Insurance, Motorcycle Direct, Norwich Union Direct and Lexham, AIG, AXA, Chaucer Insurance, Equity Red Star, Groupama, Hastings Direct, Highway, KGM, Link/ Zenith, NIG, Norwich Union and Royal & Sun Alliance.
Cost
The cost of the DVSA enhanced rider scheme with our group are available on a 2 or 4 hour option on a 1:1 Rider / Instructor.
Price is £125 per rider on Application.
For riders residing within Cumbria it is grant funded to £100 courtesy of Cumbria Road Safety Partnership (Cumbria County Council). Our group will apply for the subsidy for you which is paid directly to the group towards your training. costs. Further charges may apply if further training is required to meet your needs.
